Watercolour Plant Portraits
Ann Fraser studied drawing and painting for four years as a mature student at Edinburgh College Of Art. Having decided that she wanted to specialise in plants she followed up with a course in Botanical Illustration at the Royal Edinburgh Botanic Garden with John Mooney and Paul Nisbet.
She had her first solo Exhibition in London in 1991 and since then has exhibited widely in London and Edinburgh. Ann has been awarded a Silver, a Silver Gilt and in 2010 a Gold Medal for her paintings by the Royal Horticultural Society, London.
She is represented in many Private Collections in the UK and USA. Her work ‘The Black Border’ features in ‘Contemporary Botanical Artists of the World’ The Shirley Sherwood Collection and has been exhibited round the world, most recently at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington
Every plant that she paints has been nurtured in the one acre garden at Shepherd House. Tulips, Irises, Hellebores, Snowdrops and Poppies are grown in profusion with Paintings in mind. Her compositions are striking and intensely observed.
